The OM-D kit lens is a 12-50mm lens (F3.5-F6.3). It’s a $500 value separately but $300 if purchased with the OM-D body. In theory this is not super impressive — low light performance won’t be great — but in practice it does have some neat features:

• it’s weather sealed
• the 12-50mm range is ideal for walking around (effective +-24-100mm since crop factor is 1,94)
• it has a user configurable button (e.g. for AF lock)
• you can lock the zoom so it functions as a video style “power zoom”
• there is a macro button which, when pressed, allows you to put the lens into a sort of macro mode

Now, for this last point, always having a macro with you can lead to fun results… here’s two (rather boring) test shots, I hope that some insects cross my path later to really test this thing.
