Why megapixels matter

People will tell you that megapixels don’t matter, but they do.
Original D600 file (24MP):

Edit:

195 – Monkey
100% crop:

The cropped file is 2580×1722 so should be fine for a larger print.

With Nikon D600 and 24-70mm.

192 – Central (1)

193 – Central (2)
This last shot is once again testament to the amazing DR of the D600, click the image to toggle before/after. This will make it much easier to shoot interiors without the need for extra lights or multiple exposures.

194 – Central (3)

Here’s a shot of the cactus in my office where my external flash (old SB-600) misfired, the shot was all black. Shot with Nikon D600 and 85mm lens.
A quick adjustment in Lightroom: +5 exposure, some contrast, some whites. Notice how most of the image is intact except for some blue tints.
Amazing. Now think about what you can with the dynamic range if you exposed properly :) yay!

(for the pixel peepers: Full resolution)

Testing my new Nikon 85mm 1.8G. I bet this is going to be a wonderful portrait lens, especially on a full frame camera. Tests with Nikon D7000:

191 – Arthur

192 – Reed

193 – Fall
